The Mango Fundraiser

Tips from Millmerran State School

Millmerran State School

Millmerran State P-10 School is situated on the Darling Downs in Southern Queensland. We have approximately 330 students. We are quite a long way from mango growing country and don't often have the opportunity to acquire good mangoes. In fact our order for mangoes doubled in our second year of doing this Fundraiser.

It is very easy to organise a Mango Fundraiser. I have adapted the original order form to suit us and make it easy to keep track of money and orders. A summary sheet makes it very easy to sort out orders on the day of collection. Just tick names off as they collect their mangoes or get the customer to sign to say they've collected their order. We always order a few additional trays as there are always people wanting extra or those who have forgotten to order.

Order forms are sent out immediately after the Sept/Oct holidays and families have almost 3 weeks to get the orders and money back to the school. Advertisements are placed in shop windows around town, in the school newsletter and also the Town News.

We look forward to mango season for quite a few reasons. Firstly, we love receiving these top quality mangoes at a very reasonable price. They always arrive in good condition and are packaged attractively.

Secondly, this is one of our best fund raisers and our income from selling mangoes has allowed our P & C Association to lease enough computers to equip our Computer Lab. We have since paid out the residual on these and are proud of this achievement. To think the Mango Fundraiser provided most of the funds for this!!

I would recommend the Mango Fundraiser to all schools as a healthy alternative to the usual lolly drives etc.
